Unveiling Your True Self with Transgender and gender diverse-Focused Electrolysis

Welcome to Transjectual, your trusted partner for electrolysis in London. We understand that achieving your authentic self is of paramount importance, and we are here to help you on your journey with expertise and empathy. Our clinic is dedicated to providing high-quality electrolysis services, with a specific focus on transgender and non-binary people.

Transjectual was founded by a plastic surgeon, Dr. Veerle Rotsaert, ensuring you receive top-notch care tailored to your unique needs. We focus on half or full day sessions where we use top-tier management to expedite your electrolysis journey.

Hair growth, whether on a cisgender or gender diverse person can carry significant social stigma and personal embarrassment. Electrolysis is the only solution for permanently removing facial and genital hair for gender diverse people and on ALL hair colours. While laser hair removal may suffice in certain cases, it often falls short in achieving permanent facial or genital hair removal entirely.

Achieving control over body and facial hair is crucial for trans women aspiring to live authentically. The challenge of concealing a masculine beard through diligent effort is often met with inconsistent success.

Finding an electrologist skilled in effectively removing facial hair without causing scarring or skin discolouration is paramount. Given the difficulty in treating male facial hair, trans women should ideally seek out electrologists experienced in working with this specific type of hair. However, geographical constraints may limit this option.

At Injectual, we've devised an intensive program tailored for clearing facial and genital areas, significantly expediting the process. With only a few trips to Injectual, depending on individual response. We utilise the injections of local anaesthesia to manage discomfort, enabling us to work intensively.

Electrolysis pros and cons?

Pro:

  • The sole hair removal method approved by the FDA for permanent results.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness across all hair colours, skin types, and body regions.
  • With over 125 years of documented safety and efficacy, it boasts an unparalleled track record of success.

Con:

  • Due to the need for treating each individual hair, the process can be time-intensive.
  • The treatment can be uncomfortable, necessitating the use of local anaesthetics for extended sessions.
  • It tends to be costly, requiring a significant investment of time and resources.
  • Preparation for the procedure involves refraining from shaving at least 5 days beforehand for facial treatment and 10 days for the genital area.
  • Improper execution carries the risk of partial to full regrowth, along with potential skin damage or infection.
  • Regrowth rates remain unpredictable due to a multitude of factors.

Hair Gender:

  • At birth, roughly 5 million hair follicles cover the human body.
  • There is no formation of additional follicles post-birth, although the size of some follicles and hairs may change over time, primarily due to androgen influence.
  • Genes expressed early in follicle development before birth determine the precise spacing and distribution of follicles, resulting in the predetermined distribution of hair at birth.
  • The genetic programming for beard formation is inherent from birth, establishing a distinction between male and female hair.
  • During puberty, male vellous hair, characterised by being short, thin, and slightly coloured, undergoes transformation into terminal hairs under the influence of androgens.

How long will it take to clear an area, and what level of regrowth is normal after hair removal?

These are frequent inquiries from our patients, and the honest answer is that we can't predict this upfront. While we have averages, there's significant variability among patients, and we're still unsure why some hairs respond better to treatment than others.

The ongoing debate regarding regrowth in electrolysis stems from the challenge of distinguishing true regrowth from other stages of hair growth. It's difficult to ascertain if a hair is genuinely regrowing or if it's a new hair replacing a previously shed one since both types look identical.

There's a spectrum of opinions among electrologists regarding treatment frequency. While some believe in multiple treatments to permanently destroy a hair follicle, we hold the belief that it's a binary outcome: either the follicle is destroyed, or it isn't. Even with skilled treatment, there's typically some regrowth, estimated at 25-50%. Most experienced electrologists agree that for treatment to be effective, at least 40-50% of treated hairs should be permanently removed.

The completion time for facial electrolysis varies widely, typically ranging from under 100 hours to over 200, influenced by unknown factors that affect individual responses.

Determining the number of treatments needed varies for each person. However, once hair is removed, it's gone forever. Generally, treatment lasts at least 9-12 months, though it can extend up to 3 years due to individual variations in response.

As for the interval between sessions, patients have options. A fast track with 3/4-week intervals treats fewer hairs per session, while a 6-week track offers a balance between timeframe and cost-efficiency. The maximum recommended interval between sessions is 4-5months.
